La Manga del Mar Menor is an elongated strip of land on the south-east coast of Spain, located in the autonomous region of Murcia on the Costa Cálida, bordering the Mediterranean Sea. The nearest large and important port city is Cartagena.
Mar Menor, Europe's largest seawater lake, is located here. La Manga is a narrow strip of land 22 km long and up to 1.5 km wide. This strip of land acts as a natural separation between the inland sea, Mar Menor, and the open sea, the Mediterranean. Nevertheless, the inland sea is connected to the open sea through four natural channels, known as "golas". Mar Menor is also known for its beautiful beaches, which have been awarded the Blue Flag, and clear waters.
La Manga is surrounded by three natural areas: Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar in the north, and Salinas de Marchamalo and Las Amoladeras in the south.
